Educate, Empower, Engage,
Educate, Empower, Engage,
The Micro Neighborhood Alliance (MNA) is a grassroots initiative dedicated to fostering collaboration, resilience, and informed action in Provincetown.
Our mission is to educate, empower, and engage micro-neighborhoods in addressing the impacts of climate change and ensuring a sustainable future for our community. Guided by the principles of Right Intention, Right Effort, MNA translates complex challenges into practical, community-centered solutions.

Provincetown faces unique challenges due to its historic significance and location along the Bay. Rising sea levels, intensified storms, and FEMA compliance requirements compel residents to act—but these actions often have ripple effects beyond individual properties. MNA helps micro-neighborhoods navigate these interconnected issues through transparent communication, innovative strategies, and a collaborative approach.
MNA’s initiatives reflect our commitment to empowering neighborhoods and strengthening resilience
-
At MNA, we believe true adaptation begins with presence and deep listening.
Trust and clarity grow when people feel heard, and from that trust, the next steps forward become possible.
We Hear You is not just how we begin. It’s who we are.
-
Nature does not follow property lines, and neither can true resilience.
At MNA, we help communities move beyond isolation by nurturing the connections that make adaptation possible.
The Water Doesn’t Know Your Address reminds us that resilience begins with relationship, not regulation.
-
Small steps today can lower flood risk, insurance costs, and barriers to staying in the place we call home.
At MNA, Stepping Down helps property owners and neighborhoods take simple actions that contribute to lowering Provincetown’s CRS score — making flood insurance more affordable for everyone.
When we step down our risk, we step up for each other.
-
Knowing your existing elevation is the first step toward real flood resilience. Through From Where, MNA helps property owners document where they stand today, compare it to Base Flood Elevation (BFE), and understand what is required for lasting protection.
Outdated maps, shifting conditions, and uneven land make this work more important than ever.
When we know where we stand, we can make measured decisions, together.
-
Real resilience relies on layers.
Through Belt and Suspenders, MNA helps property owners and neighborhoods build multiple lines of protection, from elevating structures to managing runoff to planting hedges.
No single measure is enough.
By layering adaptation wisely, we create a future that can hold steady through the unexpected.

The 10th Edition of the State Building Code arrives July 1, 2025, bringing stronger flood resilience standards to Provincetown. Through Raising the Bar, MNA supports early, thoughtful adaptation to meet these new requirements wisely and protect both our future and our past.
Through workshops, resources, and partnerships, MNA empowers neighbors to turn shared challenges into opportunities for growth and collaboration. As a “thinkubator” project under the Provincetown Community Compact, MNA exemplifies how a coastal community can balance resilience with preservation.
While our work begins in Provincetown, it reflects an approach that could inspire and guide other communities facing similar challenges. Together, we can ensure that this historic community thrives in the face of change—guided by intention, strengthened by effort, and united in purpose.
